What a paid review is
You pay me to review your gear: the time it takes to play it properly, film it and write it up. That's all the money buys. What I think of it isn't for sale, and neither is the rating.
What you get
- A video review on the Blame Westad YouTube channel.
- The written review on this site: the verdict, a rating out of 5, the specs, what's good, what isn't, and what else to look at for the money.
The terms
They're not negotiable, because they're the reason a review here is worth paying for.
- No preview. You see the review when everyone else does.
- No approval and no edits. Not to the wording, not to the rating, not to the verdict.
- If it's bad, I'll say so, and it still goes up.
- It's labelled “Paid review” at the top of the written review, on screen and out loud at the start of the video, and with YouTube's paid-promotion setting. Links to your product are marked as paid links.
- Same method and the same rating scale as every other review on the site.
Why it works this way
The whole point of this site is that you can blame me. A verdict you could buy wouldn't be worth reading, and a review nobody trusts isn't worth paying for. Readers can trust a paid review here for the same reason they trust the rest: the brand doesn't get a say.
Not paying? Review units are welcome too
Unpaid review units work on the same terms: no preview, no approval, and the review says at the top where the unit came from and whether I kept it. The full policy is in the disclosure.
Rates
Rates depend on the gear and what it takes to review it properly. Send me what it is, who it's for and when it ships, and I'll come back with a price.
